On My Way

I am often pulled into a new idea, as I imagine

an asteroid being influenced by the sun’s orbit,

where something is different with each pass and much depends

on what is old in a new space.

Sometimes, an idea moves with me on an unclear path.

Other times, I am so directed on a collision course,

only a chance encounter, with other powerful objects will keep

me from whatever level of absorption

gravity and my place in the universe have before me.

Like every door I pass today on my walk,

I know so many will forever stay closed to me.

On my way to my destination, just one more passing

realization that our world has some ideas

moving us. The universe has taught them many times.

I proceed with my unbalanced mind as it sways in the unseen

stream, while my body, like a careening vessel, coalesces

thought waves with one ear open and collides

with toned-swells of feelings with one eye shut.
