Cataloged

I like to work backward in

Scale. All the world far away

Seems cataloged, while my countryside stays

Hidden. I have written a host

Of ideas on what is most

Meaningful. Proximity is my perennial preoccupation.

The books in my study share

Ways to navigate through abundant nature

Around me. I have many books

On plants that grow best nearby

My home. The plants are all

Pictured and recorded in the pages.

The fauna that feed on plants

And each other have names recorded

With special care and they are

Often pictured with the images illustrated

At home. I like to add

New entries as I find them,

This gives me a good reason

To deliberately go outside each day.

New life finds ways over old

Paths I have honored my way.
