Grass

Grass is land’s most expensive adornment.

A fragile fabric born of fire,

Floods, and consumed in empty fountains

Of famine, expressive of an unquenchable

Need to sanctify water not sand.

Farmed fields of grass seed tomorrow’s

Harvests. Energy is stored as feed.

Grass has an expanding blue-skied soul.

Naturalists remember grass’ perennially spiritual role.
